Canes 2022 RHP/INF Matthew Matthijs has committed to North Carolina

Canes 2022 RHP/INF and DH Conley (NC) product Matthew Matthijs has committed to North Carolina and Head Coach Mike Fox. During the 2018 season Matthew played under the guidance of Canes National 2022 Head Coach and Canes GM Dan Gitzen. Gitzen had this to say about Matthijs. “Matthew Matthijs has a huge upside on the mound and at the plate. He is a very young 2022 who flat out competes on the mound with a 3 pitch mix that includes a fastball in the upper 80s and a good breaking ball. At the plate he has pull side power but uses the whole field well making pitch by pitch adjustments. He is also very athletic and is a plus defender with a very good arm that he uses well at 3rd base. With where Matthew is now and 4 years ahead of him, there is no doubt Matt has a chance to be a big time draft prospect in 2022 and an impact player when he hits campus in Chapel Hill” We would like to congratulate Matthew and the Matthijs family on his commitment to North Carolina.
