Canes-Gallaher opened the 2018 spring season with a perfect run through the USSSA Beast of the East tournament in the Charlotte metro area. Although rain washed out pool play on Saturday, the Canes still finished 4-0 and outscored those four opponents by a 32-12 margin on the way to the title.
Eight different pitchers saw action on the weekend, and a pair of hurlers combined to toss a 9-0 shutout in Sunday’s championship game. The victory marks Canes-Gallaher’s second straight Beast of the East championship, as this same group also won the title in the fall. The team is scheduled to play in nine more tournaments over the remainder of the spring and summer season.
