Playing in just the team’s second tournament after making the jump to 13U, Canes NC – Gallaher went 5-0 playing up in the 14U Rawlings Super NIT, taking the title by outscoring the rest of the field 40-7.
After earning a pair of victories on Saturday in pool play, the Canes dominated Sunday’s bracket play, winning three games by a combined margin of 28-3. The pitching staff combined on one-hitters in the quarterfinal and semifinal victories, then allowed four hits in the championship game while watching the offense explode for a 15-2 victory to take the title. For the weekend, nine Canes pitchers saw action, limiting their 14U opponents to a combined .130 batting average. The Canes pounded out more hits in the four-inning championship game (16) than they allowed as a pitching staff in the entire 27 innings of the tournament (12).
