Batting Practice Rounds and Overall Prospects

25 players in the class of 2013 arrived Sunday to put on a show and make an impression. One player talked his family into stopping on the way back from his brothers tournament in North Carolina to meet the coaches. Jason Hager, Mountain View HS, not only met the coaches but jumped into the cage to take some hacks. Jason impressed with a short powerful swing and plenty of bat speed. Jason is an outstanding catcher with a plus arm, runs well and plays the game as hard as you can. We can't wait to see more of Jason.

Other top prospects of the day included

Alec Bettinger, Hylton HS- A long, lean 14 yr old RHP with a strong arm and smooth delivery consistently threw 84 in his bullpen session. Alec's curveball was tight, late breaking and dirty. Also in his repertoire is a change-up that will definitely fool hitters and make his fastball tougher to catch up with. As Alec continues to grow, we see more in his whip of an arm. Alec also ran a 7.0 60, can play every position on the field and is a solid gap to gap hitter. Definitely one to watch.

Porter Reinhart, St Christophers- R/R OF with a  solid, athletic frame, Porter looks and carries himself like a ballplayer. Porter ran a 7.0 60 and showed a 80 mph reading on his throws from the OF. In the cage, Porter really showed us he can swing the stick. He has a great approach, very good hands and squares the ball well. When Porter gets some lift in his swing, he will hit the ball out of the park. Porter is one of the nicest kids you will meet and has an outstanding make-up.  As hard as he works, Porter will continue to improve and is a definite next level prospect!

Hunter Kemplin, Fuquay-Varina- A switch-hitting stroking machine. Hunter scored as the best hitter of the class. He put on a clinic in the cage and left the coaches shaking their heads in approval. A very impressive hitter that ran a 7.2 60. A P/3b Hunter infield throws registered at 73 mph while showing  above average infield actions. In the pen, Hunter registered a 78 mph fb, 64 mph cb and a 58 mph cu.

Joseph Bialkowski, Broughton- This 6'3, 155 lb left hander can really drop the bathead on the ball. On Sunday afternoon, he was hurting everything thrown at him. A OF/P, Joseph ran a 7.4 60 that is very good for a 15 yr old with his size. From the OF, Joseph showed a strong arm registering 76 mph on the gun. As his frame  fills out, we see Josephs line drives landing on the other side of the fence. It should be fun to watch him grow.
