BP Rounds and Overall Prospects
The 2014 Class is one of the best in the Country. Their combination of speed, power, arm strength and baseball intelligence makes them a force for many years to come in the Canes uniforms.
DJ Burt - Fuquay-Varina (NC) - Burt impressed everyone at the Combine. Amazing bat speed with "Elite" running speed (6.9) for a 2014 and is able to use his speed it in every facet of his game. DJ refuses to strike out and therefore puts pressure on the defense every at bat. Burt will play mostly SS at Fuquay-Varina High School but is without a doubt, the best CF in the state.
Brett Daniels - Fuquay-Varina (NC) - Daniels was one of the more technically sound hitters at the Combine. Brett keeps his hands tight to the ball, stays in the hitting zone well and then explodes through for his extension. He's a pure line drive hitter that can hit for power too. Brett's bat speed was great! On defense, Daniels has the quickest glove to hand transition of any 2B I've seen.
Mike Sconzo - Holly Springs (NC) - Sconzo is one of the toughest outs in the 2014 Class. Mike lets the ball travel and uses the whole field better than any. Mike is a catcher that blocks to the plate better than anyone ... couple that with his 2.01 Pop Time and Mike is able to control the game from behind the plate.
Alex Yarem - Apex (NC) - Yarem is a left handed hitter with pop. His BP session showed off his combination of bat speed and power. Alex is an outstanding picker at 1B and his 6'1" frame allows for him to get to a lot of balls that most could not.
Wade Laskey - Harnett Central (NC) - Laskey is a power hitting catcher and had a great BP round. Wade's best attributes though is his ability to block to the plate and his arm. Wade's Pop Time at the Combine was 2.05.
Brighton Hudson - Garner (NC) - Hudson is a left handed pitcher with a devastating change up. Brighton hits for average and power but his best attribute is his ability to mix it up on the bump and control the game from the mound.
Nolan Pierce - Scotland
(NC) - Pierce's athleticism was on display Sunday at the
Combine. Nolan
was probably one of the more versatile players there. Ran 2nd in his Class (7.2), showed great hands at SS, hit with power and top out at 81 MPH on the gun. Complete player!
Jackson Bellenkes - Northwest Guilford (NC) - Bellenkes ranked in the top of his Class for hitting at the Combine. Jackson hits for power and runs well above average (7.5) but his best attribute is his arm. Jackson had the top 2014 Pop Time (2.0) and velocity from the bullpen (82 MPH).
Evan Brabrand - Wakefield (NC) - Brabrand is an ATHLETE! Evan was one of the highest rated hitter in his Class at the Combine. Great bat speed with a lot of pop. Evan has very good hands at SS and threw 80 MPH from the bump with movement.
Douglas Taylor - Fayetteville Academy (NC) - Taylor is a power hitting corner guy. Douglas fielding at the Combine was great and he threw well (76 MPH) from the mound in his bullpen session.
Jason Hunter - Southwest Onslow (NC) - Hunter had one of the best rounds of BP in his Class at the Combine. His bat speed is 2nd to none and hits with power. With a Pop Time of 2.03 and a FB that tops out close to 80 MPH, you can see why everyone was impressed with Jason's arm.
