Evoshield Canes 11U Harland Top 4 finish at Best of the East

This past weekend, the Evoshield Canes 11U Harland – NC found themselves playing in the USSSA Super NIT known as the Beast of the East held in Charlotte.  With 24 teams from 6 different states attending the tournament, the competition looked tough.

After pool play, the Canes were 1-1 with their only loss to a tough BC Athletics team from Knoxville, TN.  The first bracket play game pitted the Canes vs a team that had beaten them twice this year, The Legends from Youngsville, NC.  The Canes used a 14 run 2nd inning en route to an 18-7 victory and the right to play on Sunday.

Game 1 Sunday featured the Canes vs BC Athletics for round 2.  The Athletics held a 4-1 lead through 5 innings but the Canes were able to use some timely hitting in the top of the 6th to tie the game and eventually avenge their Saturday loss by scoring 1 in the 7th inning to move on.

Game 2 Saturday vs East Rowan might have been the craziest game of the tournament.  East Rowan came out swinging and had a decisive 12-0 lead heading into the 4th inning.  The Canes were able to scratch out 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th to narrow the deficit to 7.  Adding 2 more in the 5th, the score was now 12-7.  In the bottom of the 6th, the Canes exploded with 5 more runs to tie the game only to see East Rowan plate 5 in the top of the 7th.  Once, again, with their backs against the wall, the Canes bats exploded scoring 6 on a walk off to take the game 18-17.

On to the semifinals to face the undefeated team Minion from Indian Trail, NC.  Minion jumped out to an early 5-0 lead.  But once again, the comeback Canes scored 5 in the top of the 3rd inning to tie it.  The Canes took the lead 8-5, by scoring 3 more in the top of the 4th but it just wasn’t enough as a really tough Minion team scored 4 in the bottom of the 4th to win the game 9-8 as the 1hr 40min time limit expired bringing an end to the Canes run.  A Final 4 finish at the Beast of the East Super NIT will certainly give the Canes something to build on as the 2017 season rolls on.  Hats off to Minion for capturing the 2017 title.

The Evoshield Canes 11U Harland – NC showed true determination and heart with their outstanding play this past weekend vs some very good competition.  With a 15-4 record through 4 tournaments, these boys are off to a great 2017 start.
