Experience - Entering his 5th season as the canes pitching coach, and with 4 full seasons under his belt as the canes pitching master mind, Coach Collins has sent 51 of his pitchers off to play at the collegiate level. He does a great job at developing young pitchers and preparing them mentally and physically to pitch at the next level. Coach Collins has been coaching for 18+yrs at various levels from Little League to High School where he served as pitching coach for the Union Pines varsity baseball team. Previously he was the pitching coach for the Carolina Force AAU-USSSA baseball team that won the 15U USSSA State Championship in 2004. The Force pitching staff only gave up 2 runs in 4 games on the way to the state title. Coach Petty Stated "Doug has done an excellent job with the Canes pitching staff, I swear this guy got into the wrong profession out of high school. He is a full blooded baseball coach, and really knows his stuff inside and out. I respect his opinion about baseball as much or more than anyone I have ever been around. He and I have the same goals in mind for building the Canes Program, and Doug is in it for the long haul. One of the best things we have on this team is pitching and that has been Doug's doing all the way."

  • Personal - Doug and his wife Lisa have 2 sons Ben and Bryan, and a daughter Ashley. He has a passion for working with kids of all ages with their pitching and loves to play golf. His favorite actor is Harrison Ford. Favorite food is a good steak.
