Canes to partner w/ OBGC in 2022

OLNEY, Md. (January 9 2022) – Canes Baseball, one of the nation’s top showcase organizations, is thrilled to announce that OBGC will be partnering with the Canes and will be the new home of its Canes Mid-Atlantic teams.

Olney Baseball, with its Pirates and Bucs teams, has long been one of the region’s premiere travel ball organizations, attracting and fielding the best talent in the area for two decades. In partnering with Canes Baseball, Olney Baseball is ensuring that its players will receive the best possible coaching and exposure. Canes Baseball has also committed to helping grow OBGC’s recreational baseball program through strategic partnerships and innovative opportunities for the OBGC and its players.

As part of this new relationship, Olney Baseball will retire the Pirates and Bucs team names. A gradual transition will occur in the Spring of 2022 with two of our teams transitioning immediately and the remaining youth level teams transitioning by fall of 2022.

In addition to fielding two teams at 8u through 14u – gold and black – Canes Baseball will also begin the process of building HS Showcase teams in the age groups of 15, 16, 17 & 18U starting in the fall of 2022.

“We are very excited about the future of Canes Baseball here in the Mid-Atlantic area. OBGC and their travel program (Pirates & Bucs) have long been one of the top travel programs at the youth level in the Mid-Atlantic Region. With blossoming facilities, strong leadership, knowledgeable coaches and a consistently talented pool of young, motivated ballplayers – OBGC was a perfect partnership for the Canes Baseball Brand in the Mid-Atlantic area,” said Dan Gitzen, General Manager of Canes Baseball.

Brad Scott, Executive and Athletic Director of OBGC, added “year in and year out Canes Baseball is the top national organization in the country. No baseball organization does a  better job in terms of assisting players with the college recruitment process, and we believe this partnership will allow our players to play with one organization and in one uniform for their entire youth baseball experience. I would like to thank our Baseball Board for all of their time and dedication in working through this partnership and in helping to take our baseball program to the next level. We are very excited about the direction of our program and the impact the partnership will make with players in our community for years to come.”
