Canes Expand into Colorado with Launch of Canes Denver

Canes Great Plains is thrilled to announce the official launch of Canes Denver, a powerful new addition to the Canes family that marks a major expansion into one of the country’s baseball and softball talent-rich regions. Leading this exciting move is Lucas Gilbreath, one of Colorado’s most respected player development minds and current MLB pitcher for the Colorado Rockies organization. Gilbreath will be operating Canes Denver and integrating into the Canes Great Plains territory. He will be joined by Ty Giordano, who will run the high school program, Pat Williams, who will be in charge of the youth and prep program and Chadd Morrison on the operations team.
This strategic merger brings Colorado Ball Players Academy (CBPA) under the Canes banner —combining the national resources, infrastructure, and championship mindset of the Canes with the deep community roots and elite-level coaching of CBPA. “Bringing in Lucas is a major step forward—not just for Denver, but for the entire Great Plains region,” says Edie Thompson, Regional Director of Canes Great Plains. “He’s a leader who lives the
Canes mindset and brings the kind of energy, integrity, and vision that will elevate everything we’re building and sets the tone for our future.”Gilbreath is a Colorado native, a Legacy High School product and co-founder of VTool Elite Development, which has helped mold some of the best young talent in the region. Along with Giordano, the duo has earned a reputation for doing things the right way — putting kids first and building competitive, character-driven teams that succeed on and off the field. This expansion gives Colorado players direct access to a nationally recognized player development system and a clear path to college recruiting. With the Canes, we’re not just building teams—we’re paving the way for future Colorado talent. The organization integration is already in motion, with CBPA teams being transitioned into the Canes system and gaining access to resources, events, and exposure. Tryouts for fall 2025 are being scheduled, and we are currently accepting coaching and team applications to join our growing Colorado expansion. The initial tryouts for our youth and prep baseball program will be July 14-16th at Legacy High School, followed by the high school tryouts. We are just getting started…Phase one of our Colorado footprint begins with Denver — and it’s only the beginning. We have also identified leadership for Canes Softball, and will be sharing more about that soon. The state is primed for explosive growth. This is more than a merger — it’s a movement. We welcome all of the CBPA players into Canes Denver!
